Latest Microsoft Edge update focuses on security
Microsoft has released a new update for its Edge browser, version 136.0.3240.76. This update doesn’t introduce any new features, but it focuses on fixing security flaws and improving performance. It’s a behind-the-scenes upgrade, but an important one, especially when it comes to user safety.
Unlike the upcoming Edge version 137, currently being tested in the Beta Channel and known for removing some existing features, this update keeps everything as it is functionally. The main goal here is to patch vulnerabilities that attackers could use to compromise user data.
One of the critical fixes addresses a high-severity security issue tracked as CVE-2025-4664. This vulnerability, described as a lack of proper policy enforcement in the browser’s loader system, could allow malicious sites to access data from other websites you’re visiting. The fix is especially urgent since attackers are already exploiting this flaw in the wild.
Another vulnerability patched in this release is CVE-2025- 4609. It involves a mishandled process related to the browser’s internal Mojo system. Although Microsoft hasn’t disclosed detailed information about this bug, it’s inherited from Chrome, which shares the same Chromium engine as Edge.
The update also includes some general stability and performance fixes. Microsoft hasn’t published a detailed list of what’s improved, so users will have to trust that common bugs and glitches have been addressed. Just last week, Edge received a similar small update that fixed problems with the Microsoft Editor spellchecker and other security issues.
