Microsoft pushes Windows 11 with “Risk” warning
Microsoft has released a new 30-second ad for Windows 11 on its official YouTube channel, titled “Right Side of Risk.” And yes, the name alone raises eyebrows. The ad is the latest in Microsoft’s ongoing campaign to remind users that Windows 10 will lose security update support this October. For anyone still sticking with the older OS, and that’s a large portion of users, this is yet another nudge to move on.
The message? “Upgrade now,” the ad urges, while a sleek animation of a modern laptop plays in the background. Specifically, it recommends switching to a Windows 11 Pro PC with Intel Inside to “stay on the right side of risk.”
The choice of words here is interesting, some might even say manipulative. By emphasizing “risk,” Microsoft seems to be applying pressure more than offering value. The ad targets businesses and IT professionals, especially with phrases like “simple, fast, and reliable deployment.”
Still, it’s impossible to ignore the broader context: Windows 10 remains wildly popular, even as it nears the end of its official life. Microsoft once claimed it would be “the last version of Windows,” suggesting a future of continuous upgrades. But clearly, plans changed.
To make matters worse, many users find Windows 11 frustrating, from increased hardware requirements to changes in user interface and workflow. So Microsoft’s insistence on upgrading, while pulling the plug on a still-beloved OS, feels less like progress and more like a forced sales pitch.
Let’s be honest: Microsoft decided to retire Windows 10. That means it creates a problem, then sells the solution in the form of new devices or Windows 11 licenses. And that never sits well with users, especially when the newer product feels more like a downgrade than an improvement.
In a time when the Windows platform feels less vital than ever, Microsoft’s approach might be doing more harm than good.
