Hello all,

I created my own unattended DVD with the Windows 7 Toolkit. I created an ISO file and installed Windows 7 Ultimate x64 in VMWare (by booting the ISO file). The whole installed went fine!

After the succesvol installation in VMWare I used the Windows 7 Toolkit to copy the installation on my USB-stick.

But, installing Windows 7 Ultimate x64 on my laptop (via USB) the Silent Installs were not working. The screen which shows the progress on installing the silent installs didn't popup and my laptop booted directly to my desktop.

In VMWare the above was working fine.

How can I fix this?

The silent installs which I integrated in the installation are:

- dotNetFx40_Full_x86_x64_SlimSetup

- Silverlight_x64

It's probably because it was installed from a USB stick. I'll take a look at the code..

Can you please take a screenshot of your USB stick contents? There should be an 'Apps' folder on the USB stick.

I had no problems whatsoever integrating those exact silent installers from different usb sticks... usb 3.0 / ssd-based etc... with different versions of W7T. I for one don't think it's a usb-stick-related-problem.

I'm on my mobile phone, so I can't take a screenshot right now. But, I can tell you that there is an 'Apps' folder on the USB-stick, although I made it a system file so it's hidden. Also I placed other files on the USB-stick, which I need. Could it be that one of those two things is conflicting with my installation?

So like you HID the folder? WHY??? What other MODS did you do?

It should still work with the Apps folder being hidden, but what do you mean you made it a 'system file'??

IF he did that BEFORE the files were copied to the USB. Maybe, just MAYBE, they were not copied because they were system and hidden?

It should still copy if set as a system or hidden, but he specifically said he turned the folder into a system file which won't work.

First I copied all the files inside the ISO file to my USB-stick, with the toolkit. Afterwards I changed the 'Apps' folder to a hidden folder with the ATTRIB +S +H command in CMD.

Beside the things I described earlier, I didn't modify anything.

Is the apps folder still in the root of the USB, have you tried without doing the +S +H command?

Yes it's in the root. Will try without the command in a few days and let you know!

Can I open the silent installer directly from my USB-stick (when logged in into Windows), without the need to reinstall my whole system?

I searched all the folders on my USB-stick already, but couldn't find anything.

There is but it's more complicated It would require mounting the image using WIM Registry Editor, exporting HKLM\\W7T, editing it and then import it on your current OS and then reboot.

Used my USB-stick (without change the ATTRIB commands, so all the installation files are still hidden) to install Windows 7 x64 Ultimate in VMWare. In VMWare the silent installs are working.

Go to C:\Windows\System32\W7TRunOnce.exe, right-click Properties > Details. What version is it?

Check it in VMWare (on my PC), it says version '3.2.0.0'.

It should be the same on my laptop I guess, because I didn't change anything to my USB-stick.

Hmm, that's the latest version for the v102 build. It's a bit strange why it would work in VMWare but not a live PC :/

Sad news. So, there's nothing I can do about this?

The only thing i can think of that can affect it is the attribute settings (system + hidden).

EDIT: I'll do some testing and get back to you.

I try to make some time this week, to reinstall my laptop without the attrib commands, I'll get back to you also!

W7TRunOnce.exe version numer on my laptop is also 3.2.0.0!
