ricktendo
This is the yumeyao LZX:21 mod of InstEd (you can credit him and ONLY him for this) Website: http://www.instedit.comFull relationship mapping between all rows, including formatted fields referencing components, files, properties, and directories.Highlighting of broken relationships, with full explanation.Cascaded update when editing a referenced row. e.g. Renaming a directory row will optionally udpate everything that references that row, including formatted fields.Cascaded deletion when deleting a parent row. e.g. Deleting a component row optionally deletes everything belonging to the component.Smart field editors.Auto-completion where suitable.Menu based flag field editor.Tooltips showing exact meaning of flag fields.Guid generator.Validation profiles.Validate more than one file at a time.Validate files using more than one cub at a time.Sort, hide, copy the validation results.Auto navigates to the relevant field.Configurable external tool commands.Optionally pass the current file to the external tool on its command line.Pass transforms to external tools as msi files, and have InstEd automatically include the changes made by the external tool in the original transform.Single command backups of the current file.Msi differencing.Apply and unapply multiple transforms to see cumulative effects.Easily revert single fields, or whole tables, in both transforms and diffed msi files.Hide empty tables.Back and Forward navigation of table cells using keyboard and/or browsing buttons on mice/keyboard.Build and rebuild cabs from the Media table.Merge modules into the msi, with automatic fixup of the sequence tables. Extract the cabs and/or files from the merge module when merging.Command line validation.Specify a name for use in the "Last Saved By" field, e.g. a company name instead of a user name.Context sensitive F1 help integrated with the online Windows Installer SDK.Directory table shows expanded target folder._Streams table is accessible so that merge module cabs can be accessed.Update the File and MsiFileHash details for files located in the source tree.Import regedit files (.reg) into components.Sets the INSTED_VALIDATING_FILENAME environment variable to the filename of the msi being validated, so that QA cubs can validate the form of the filename. For me, InstEd is unique because it can edit an msi file without touching SummaryInfo... Modificatioins: VC10 Runtimes removed from the pack. gdiplus.dll removed from the pack. Changed defaut option - Last Saved by - Don't change on save ----- this is what I mentioned above, not touching SummaryInfo. Allow hacking the executable to grant generating LZX-compressed cab files. (commandline switch: HACKLZX=1) Download the updated/repacked installer http://adf.ly/1713566/instedmsiMD5: 9d3afa16be6c4e70bd985af58b666428 Size: 2.04 MB Or download the MST so you can apply it to current (or future) version of InstEd yourself http://adf.ly/1713566/instedmst raddy, Forseti, HJSC and 4 others

Forseti
good morning Rick, Have an idea why I get a cab building errors? Now I am working with Windows 10! Net 3.5 and your Visual C++ Runtimes pack is installed! I hope you can help me..

Forseti
Your formatted hdd partition or OS does not support 8.3 filenamesthere is an alternative tool?
ricktendo
You can add this support back with fsutil, or execute it on a partition/os that does support 8.3 filenames
Forseti
You can add this support back with fsutil, or execute it on a partition/os that does support 8.3 filenames it does not work! you are using Windows 10? Perhaps because of the permissions? I do not have full control!
ricktendo
No, its because your partition does NOT support 8.3 filenames. Use fsutil to determine and change this https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ff621566.aspx Run this command and tell me the result (also let me know how many partitions you have on your machine) fsutil 8dot3name query
Forseti
Run this command and tell me the result (also let me know how many partitions you have on your machine) fsutil 8dot3name query I have 2 Corsair SSD's a 120GB unpartitions.. EDIT: 0 - Enable 8dot3 name creation on all volumes on the system1 - Disable 8dot3 name creation on all volumes on the system2 - Set 8dot3 name creation on a per volume basis3 - Disable 8dot3 name creation on all volumes except the system volume always the same result! :crying_anim02: Edited August 13, 2015 by Forseti
ricktendo
Tell me, did you happen to reboot after you set this? (something tells me the answer is No) 0 should work on all ssd's, or 2 then you enable it on one or the other drive, then put your MSI on that drive and re-try You can use mountvol to determine the VolumePath, example mountvol D:\ /LOnce you have the volume name, you can enable it on ONLY your D:\ drive and leave C:\ as is fsutil 8dot3name set 2 Volume{your-drive-guid-here}Now put your MSI on D:\ and you will be able to rebuild MSI CAB
Forseti
Tell me, did you happen to reboot after you set this? (something tells me the answer is No) Rick, Please believe me, I've done everything as described, incl. reboot! I suspect the error in the write protection, the InstEd Version or another Windows 10 bug!Use you Windows 10, if so, which version? and they have been modified with NTlite or Winreducer? sorry for my bad english, I hope you understand me... :flowers: Edit:I tested it again! I've found that it occurs only in certain MSI installers! works:- Eraser it does not work:- FileLocator Pro- Skype for business- Silverlight (your Installer) I alone under Windows 10 the problems, under Windows 7 works perfectly! Return to Windows 7 in the VM, for me only times the best way! @Rick Thank you for your support :giveheart: Edited August 14, 2015 by Forseti
bphlpt
From what I understand, Windows 10 has indeed tightened up the permissions so that it is much more difficult, if it is possible at all, to do certain things to various parts of the system, even if you are the administrator. Just one more reason that I don't like Windows 10. Cheers and Regards
ricktendo
The reason for the makecab error is because insted generates a ddf file (in insted right click cab and choose show ddf) that it uses with makecab to rebuild installer (makecab /f filename.ddf,) if your hdd/os does not support 8.3 filenames this will failSee the ddf for silverlight (full of 8.3 file/path names) ;*** InstEd
