Microsoft Word to get an AI-powered feature
Microsoft recently introduced a new feature in Microsoft 365, specifically designed for users of Microsoft Copilot within the Microsoft 365 suite. This latest addition, marked as Feature ID 379972, enables users to include a summary of AI-generated documents when sharing Word files through OneDrive.
This feature is especially useful for busy professionals who may not have the time to go through large documents. Thanks to Copilot’s summaries, they can quickly cache the main points of a document without having to scroll through numerous pages. These summaries will be part of the email notification sent to recipients when documents are shared.
Starting from February 2024, users can incorporate the AI-generated document summary when sharing a Word document online through the share dialog. The document summary will then be embedded in the email notification received by the recipients.
It’s worth saying that this feature is exclusively accessible to customers with a Microsoft Copilot for Microsoft 365 license and is applicable only when sharing a Word for the web file. This update was added to the Microsoft 365 roadmap on January 26, 2024, falling under the General Availability and Targeted Release phases. The rollout is scheduled to begin in February 2024.
The cloud instance for this feature is available worldwide, utilizing the Standard Multi-Tenant infrastructure, and can be accessed through the web platform.
