When I was trying to install Windows Server 2003 R2 x86 I kept on getting this error over and over again. The error was: fastfat.sys file is corrupted or missing. Setup cannot continue with the installation. I tried everything i could think of. I changed DVD Drives, hard drives, IDE cables. Reset the BIOS system about 5 times. tried the hard drive and dvd drive on my system to see if they work and yes they both do. I also tested the CD in VMware to see if it was the disc that was broken. But when I installed it on VMware it worked fine. So then i was left thinking of what to do next. So i pulled out one of RAM i had in the system. (I had 2 sticks 1x 512MB and 1x 256MB) i…

A custom fit LTSP can be made to fit on a 600MB partition. I know, I've seen it running and serving X so the question is, can W2K3 get down below the 1GB marker without the whole OS going to the crapper? I'd like to find out but I won't hazard this without some serious hand holding. The Bold-Fortune guide was an inspiration for this endeavor. By the way, send the $15 to him and save yourself at least 3 hours. His scripts are worth it if you are running XP, unfortunately the scripts have too many discrepencies (mismatched/missing file names, etc.) for Win2K3sp2 EE so I am going to have to do it myself. Anyone willing to help?

Hi, I am runing a small domain at home, XPSP2 Pro clients, Server 2003 standard server. The problem I have is this; twice so far I have been browsing the files on the server from the client, I have right clicked with the mouse and locked up the server's network access. Once this has happened, the server will not respond to pings from the client, although if i swap onto my kvm, I can access and use the server locally. I think I may have disabled WFP during setup; could this be causing the issue, or is it something else? HDD on server is a RAID1 Array, with shadow copy running. Gigabit nic's, plenty of ram both ends. Please post back with any ideas on what may be causing …

Yesterday was the official launch of Window Server 2008, the first version of Windows to include PowerShell! Is that a good day or what? How could the day get any better? Well, the people at Quest Software answered that question by officially releasing PowerGUI! PowerGUI ROCKS! If you haven't used it yet, you should download it (it's free) and kick the tires. Dmitry Sotnikov and the guys at Quest really got where we were going with PowerShell and PowerGUI does a great job exploiting PowerShell's capabilities. This was no small feat. When I first started telling people about Object Pipelines, ObjectFlow engines, and Know-Nothing Utilities - people looked at me like…

Office 2003 SP3 has been available interactively on MU for many months now, but today [February 28, 2008] marks the beginning of automatic distribution to MU users. We've heard great feedback from customers who've already installed SP3, and feel confident in distributing it to the many users who rely on MU to keep their PCs secure, reliable, and up-to-date. Note: The automatic distribution process will be gradual, so some users may see it install today, and for others, it may take a little longer, revealed a Microsoft representative on behalf of the Office & MU Teams. Of course that Office 2003 SP3 is also still available as a standalone download via this link.

I need to make a script that will connect through SSH with Putty or WinSC application to a server which is in Germany. Basically, one server is in Croatia and another is in Germany. I have one server which is in DMZ. I'd like to patch it but since it's in DMZ he can't access the internet or WSUS server on our network. I've downloaded all updates that I need for it and now I'd like to know if can run automatic update somehow instead of running every update manually, one by one I've found a way to do this.. A batch file needs to be created with this commands, it also needs to be placed in the folder with all of the update packages: Once executed It'll delete any update once it has been applied. Thx

Hey guys, I have a question. Does any of you know how can I protect my network from unauthorized DHCP address leases. Here's a quick info about the network and situation. 1000< PC's with static IP addresses. 150< Laptops with DHCP addresses (mostly reserved IP's by MAC address) I would like to know is there a way to protect my network by DHCP not aquiring IP's to unathorized laptops/PC's. For instance, current situation is that DHCP provides IP's to anyone that connects to our network, and besides that he/she won't be able to access any of our network or domain resources, I'd like to prevent DHCP server leases for those laptops. I know I can protect this with setti…

I may be getting an AMD Duron 1300 cpu in the near future (2 - 6months, don't know and I don't want to rush it ) and I'm planning on turning it into a home server, ie) storing files and an internet gateway for security. Anyway, I was wondering what would be the best OS for this. The system will have a 1300MHz CPU, 192MB Ram, 13gb hdd (maybe bigger later on) and a wired ethernet card (motherboard is an all in one, i have 4 of them already). Anyway, it will be a decent little machine once I build it up. I'm also thinking of putting an ATi Radeon 7000 64MB AGP Card in it to get some ram back. I can get server 2003 (Dad's work has a VLK of it) or I can load 2000 Server (they …
