  1. hey wincert, its been awhile. trying to build a windows 7 disc when this happens: Exception: Form: When a pop-up is encountered Status: Updates | Checking #2: 44 of 347 (KB2487292) Unhandled Exception: Index was out of range. Must be non-negative and less than the size of the collection. Parameter name: index StackTrace: at System.Collections.ArrayList.get_Item(Int32 index) at System.Windows.Forms.ToolStripItemCollection.get_Item(Int32 index) at System.Windows.Forms.ToolStrip.OnPaint(PaintEventArgs e) at System.Windows.Forms.Control.PaintWithErrorHandling(PaintEventArgs e, Int16 layer, Boolean disposeEventArgs) at System.Windows.Forms.Control.WmPaint(Message& m) at System.Windows.Forms.Control.WndProc(Message& m) at System.Windows.Forms.ToolStrip.WndProc(Message& m) at System.Windows.Forms.StatusStrip.WndProc(Message& m) at System.Windows.Forms.Control.ControlNativeWindow.WndProc(Message& m) at System.Windows.Forms.NativeWindow.Callback(IntPtr hWnd, Int32 msg, IntPtr wparam, IntPtr lparam) InnerException: Source: mscorlib TargetSite: System.Object get_Item(Int32) Data: System.Collections.ListDictionaryInternal any ideas? i can see the toolkit still working behind the error, and if i bring up the task manager i can see dism still actively working. but id rather not wait several hours for the toolkit to "finish" to only find out that the finished product is useless.
  2. virtual clonedrive works. and it has the added bonus of being freeware.
  3. i switched from 64-bit xp to 64-bit win7. Things I don't like: -too many services running by default, and there isnt a convenient GUI for tweaking/disabling the ones you dont need (services.msc just doesnt cut it) -win7 likes to randomly lock me out of deleting .exe files, even when im using the administrative account. killbox, unlocker, even killing explorer.exe doesnt work...i have to restart in safe mode to delete these files, which is quite annoying. -WMP12 forces me to set it as the default program for several media-related file extensions, even though ive done everything i can to keep it from running -WMP also auto-indexes everything i keep in my "Music" library even though i dont want it to. -not that i expected anything super-stable, but my video driver is a prerelease version. so sleep/hibernate are extremely unstable. ive also had aero (dwm.exe) randomly crash and restart on me. -dvd shrink doesnt work. at all -alcohol 120 wont install. -the new HomeGroup networking thing makes absolutely no sense to me...was it really that difficult to give all your computers the same domain name and just map network drives? -just like on Vista, im locked completely out of opening certain folders even though im using the admin account. and yes I can edit permissions, but i shouldnt have to do that when its my computer to begin with. Things I do like: -Installation was easy...Win7 even managed to install drivers for everything but my video card. And when it installed wireless it let me enter my network's password so I was connected the first time I saw the desktop. -Geerally speedy. Boot time seems to be a second or two faster, and windows itself seems to be pretty responsive. -I'm using the superbar instead of rocketdock which means more simplicity and one less application running -Some of the aero effects seem a little silly, but ive actually been using lot of them and have to admit they are pretty useful. -Easy to shut UAC, windows defender, and action center (security center) completely off. I'll probably stick with Win7, but still I would really like to see MS take all the feedback they get seriously and actually DO something about it.
  4. Windows XP x64 with Taskbar disabled.
  5. personally i would go with the one from the second link. the description points out that it runs cool and quiet, plus with it being a bit larger youre free to add larger (and possibly cheaper) hardware.
  6. could someone do me a favor and let the alky dev(s) know that hold 'em doesnt work on 64-bit xp??
  7. here's a list of things that you can do on vista, but not on xp: ... ... ... ... ... i rest my case.
  8. theres nothing vista does that xp cant do faster and with fewer resources. i tried vista for awhile, and will never use it again. and going by what ive seen of windows 7, i may be sticking with xp for quite awhile... xp x64.
  9. i have IE8 beta 1, .NET 3.5, 3.0, and 2.0 (which includes 1.1). i have tried my 32-bit vista ultimate serial as well as a friend's 64-bit oem vista ultimate serial just to see what would happen. alky accepted both, but will not run hold 'em. i have also tried both the xp and 2k3 version of alky....and the result is the same. my other computer has virtually the same setup, except it runs 32-bit xp. the serial i entered was the 32-bit one from above, and hold 'em runs perfectly on that one.
  10. does this not work on 64-bit xp? EDIT: everything seems to work, except for hold 'em
  11. no vista, no sidebar, no bloat, no problem . and by the way, if firefox was closed my computer would only be using 80MB of memory
  12. '5eraph' over at RyanVM.net will be albe to help you with this more than anyone else i know. personally i never could get addons working 100% so i just converted all my program installs to silent installers and just run them after i install XP x64.
  13. holy crap, i made it to the finals!!!
  14. not too many changes from last month...MUCH better wallpaper, and i uninstalled the last of my security apps
  15. i like open office more. but im nearing the end of undergrad and looking at graduate schools, and to be honest its just easier to use the formatting and formulas in MS office. plus OneNote is AMAZING for taking all my notes so basically after im done with college ill switch back to open office for good. but for now i just dont have the time to mess around with things in it that i know MS office can do by default. oh, and im running office 2007. it takes a day or so to find where everything was moved, but after that ive found it to be very intuitive.
  16. ??? ...sorry, i was busy using MediaFire.
  17. ^one of the only desktops that doesnt stink of vista
  18. metallica has to be commended for one thing though: 1 billion estimated internet users + 75% web traffic estimated to be from torrents = 750 million people hate metallica. that has to be some kind of record.
  19. because youre trying to add vista files to an xp source. the files youre trying to integrate were created using vista files and are intended to modify a vista install.
