does anyone know of a post-install method for removing the "network setup wizard" and "new connection wizard" from the network connections folder? i dont necessarily need the wizards themselves deleted, but since i never use them, it would be nice if there was a way to remove any shortcuts to them... ive tried nLite and the group policy editor...neither removes the shortcuts.

TweakUI can more or less do this already: apply whatever wallpaper you want to see at startup, open tweakui and go to logon-->settings, check the wallpaper box (and any other boxes you want) and click the "copy now" button. apply, restart, and voila! new startup bakcground. youll have to do this every time, which shouldnt be a problem unless you change your background constantly.

so apparently if you have 4GB of memory on 64-bit XP, hibernation is completely disabled. no idea why...but does anyone know if theres a way i can enable hibernation (without using less RAM, of course)?

@siginet: the pro version does 2 things - adds realtime protection from rogue anti-spyware, and adds a pretty extensive list of IP's to your hosts file (similar to what spybot s&d does). if youre like me and disable realtime protection anyway, you could technically get away with installing the trial, copying down the hosts list it adds, uninstalling the program and pasting the list manually into your hosts file. but considering that the list is updated about once a week, i think its worth a few bucks to not have to go through that hassle. as for my other picks... -avg antispyware, aside from being one of the better spyware protection apps, also has just about the best trojan protection/removal rates of any program hands-down -spyware terminator also adds a list to the hosts file or restricted zones (not entirely sure which), and is always on par with avg's detection rates -and i dont think i need to elaborate on spyware blaster or spybot s&d

so since XP SP3 will be going final soon, i was wondering what the chances were of installing SP3 onto an existing installation and then somehow patching that with the V'ISO GUI. obviously this can be done to an install disk, but for the sake of not having to re-install windows, i was wondering if my suggestion is even possible.

what no one seems to be talking about is how Digsby uses a TON of memory. plus with messaging clients like Pidgin out there already, i dont really see the point of this...i added my gmail account to pidgin and the email notifications work just fine. and as for facebook, i have it setup so that i get an email notifications for that too. so again, pidgin has me covered there. Digsby is an interesting concept, but for me its too close to being one of those dreaded "All-in-One" solutions that turn out to be more inefficient than convenient.

google "rogue remover", download the free version and run it. it is specifically made to deal with rogue software, and may be able to fix the problem in a matter of seconds.

the screen in my old laptop died, so i decided to take it off, hook the laptop up to my t.v. and turn it into a 'media center'...i even took the extra time to make a custom windows cd for the job. everything went fine, except for some reason windows refuses to recognize my graphics card (which is hard-wired to the motherboard, so it didnt fall off or anything). none of the drivers that worked before are working now, and the device manager doesnt even have it listed as an unrecognized device: its as if the laptop doesnt even have a graphics card. the graphics card is an ATI mobility radeon 9000M my install cd is fairly simple...latest ryanvm update pack, NR's IE7 addon, boooggy's WMP11 integrator, DX9 march '08 addon, NR's MCE addon, rick's V'ISO patcher, and the usual slimming down with nLite. has this ever happened to anyone before...where windows simply refuses to recognize a graphics card that is cleaely there? and if so, is there a fix? any help/suggestions would be greatly appreciated. @ricktendo: try this...i made a batch file that automatically runs crap cleaner and mru-blaster silently in the background. just create a shortcut to the batch file and double-click it. All you'll see is a command window showing you that CCleaner/MRU-Blaster are still working, but you can setup the shortcut to minimize this window too.

this probably isn't the answer you're looking for, but i prefer to simply not use a sidebar. i would rather have the memory saved by not using a sidebar...and really anything i ever had in my sidebar (when i used it) can either be found in other programs or are features i didn't really feel that i needed.

if it was my CD, id probably just avoid the problem rather than solving it: disable file protection.

yea so i just realized the files in the image posted above are found in vista, but without the letter "v" in front of them. so ill hopefully get them to you sometime tonight.

all this does is shift the burden of firefox from memory to the paging file. unless you somehow have the worlds fastest solid-state hard drive, you WILL notice slower performance from firefox.

a friend of mine runs 64-bit vista, i think. ill try to get him to upload something to rapidshare tonight. not that i like the sidebar...but it'd be a move in the right direction for 64-bit xp users. @ricktendo: would this actually work, or does the sidebar have dependencies with VAIO that simply cant be fixed?
