  1. http://cid-d76843e2f6bbf370.skydrive.live....VistaVG%202.rar Something is wrong with the Start Menu part tho.
  2. Some designs are now on my DA page if somebody want to check them out, version 3.
  3. The designs were sold some time ago, that's why I had to pull them down from deviantart. But pretty soon I will release some new designs if still somebody is interested. They won't be completely new, more like a refining kind of pngs, different colors and few additions. Also, if somebody knows how to do something like Mr ricktendo did with V'ISO for Vista, or 7, let me know.
  4. Well, the first thing I'm planning to do is to wipe the HDD, create the partitions the way I like it and install my custom XP. Usually I don't care about warranties, but with a laptop I think I will have to be much more careful. Asus gives me a lot more confidence than HPs or Dells anyway.
  5. Thank you for your responses. I went to BestBuy to check out some other machines, and I found that, after all, a 14 inches screen laptop with 1280 * 800 of resolution was not as bad as I believed before (I was looking for machines with 15 inches screens and up only). And following your advice, I checked an Asus X83VB-X2, wich pretty much has everything I need, except for the HDD size, but that's fixable. I was taking a look for the Toshiba models as well, but I just couldn't stare at them for more than 5 seconds...those were some ugly ass machines!!! Its just that I have good memories from a Toshiba laptop that my Dad used to have years ago... And since I want what John C. Dvorak calls "instant gratification", then going online to order and waiting for the damn thing to arrive it's not my thing, that's why I have to go to local retailers, and for laptops Best Buy its much better than J&R or any other stores here in NYC. If you have any more insights, please let me know. Thank you again.
  6. Greetings everybody. I'm about to get a laptop because I dont have access to my main system since some months ago. I have two options, and I would like to ask for your recommendations about wich one to get, if possible. The uses, besides the tipical stuff (internet browsing, email, blah blah blah...), are going to include graphic design (so I can finally finish some designs I left behind in my main PC) on Fireworks and Photoshop, VMware jobs, maybe a couple of days of City Of Heroes, some Hulu.com HD watching, and other stuff that doesnt requiere too much computing power. Specs I dont care too much about are Battery Life, Weight, Dimension, OS (I use XP 32 bits and I will be testing Windows 7 as well), Video or Audio outputs and RAM (both have 3 or more GB). Specs I DO care about are CPU performace, GPU performance, Wireless Adapter and Screen Resolution. First Option: Toshiba Satellite A305-S6905 Specifications Pros: (compared to the HP machine) Core 2 Duo CPU Wireless Draft N Harman/Kardon speakers Price Cons: Smaller Screen Size and Screen Resolution Slower GPU Second Option: Hp Pavillion dv7-1245dx Specifications Pros: (compared to the Toshiba machine) Bigger screen size, therefore better resolution Somewhat better GPU Cons: Higher price (a difference of $70) CPU??? Wireless adapter not being Draft N (does it matter at all??) Now, I have some doubts, how faster Core 2 Duo is compared to AMD's Turion X2 (for those specific models, T6400 and RM-72)? Is there going to be any rendering problems for City Of Heroes, by example, if I use Intel's lower end GPU? Thank you in advance for all the insights you can provide, I really have to update all my software to the lastest versions, update my automated installers and more importantly, finish my folder designs. Thank you again.
  7. Thank you for the upcoming update in advance. And according to the last edition of Maximum PC, yes, Superfetch will eventually help you to speed things up 10 or 20 per cent faster, depending on the size of the software title. (Taken from Maximum PC, Holiday Edition, page 26)
  8. Will do so indeed, and report back later, thank you for the effort. EDIT: It works perfectly, as a svcpack addon and as a switchless installer. After hours of trying it out I havent found any issued, great work Mr. bjfrog.
  9. Thank you so much for the update, I started using this program just a few days ago to test it hoping that it will cosume less resources than VMware because I'm using it from an EeePC, and it runs flawlessly. Just one favor I ask you, please fix the download link. Keep on the good releases. Thank you kindly.
  10. Useful???, damn, this will come in handy for SO many reasons. Exactly what I was trying to accomplish, but I was too lazy to complete it, hehe. Thank you amnesia for the effort. Will test it right away and report back. EDIT: It worked very well, except for the bootscreen and iexplore.exe as far as I can see, I will do further tests to see if it's the script or something I doin wrong.
  11. For the different styles I could help with my mod, and peraphs including some new icons I've been working on.
  12. Name is appropiate, but Ricktendo said that you can keep the name of V'ISO, and since users already know about the patcher by that name I think it would be better to just keep it. Once all the new resources are located in one place I will start to test them, otherwise searching page by page was crazy, lol. Keep it up.
  13. Thank you for the post Mr. Rurab, glad somebody liked it, hehe. Mr. bigb, here you can find my V'ISO mod, but its an older version, 7.3 I think, if you are interested, I can upload the most recent version. Let me know. Thanks again Mr. Rurab.
  14. Hehehehe, that was quite a reading....I have to thank you for that, It will come so handy in my job....until now I ignored so much about Brooklyn, but now everytime a guest in the hotel calls the concierge to ask a question about it, I finally will be able to answer, jojo!!! Thank you amnesia.
  15. Thank you for the recommendation amnesia. The problem is that I use Maxthon for everything, that's why I need IE7 installed and updated. I haven't tried Opera in ages, but since you are telling me, I will download it and see how it goes. Thank you.
  16. I don't know if this happen only in my configuration, since I don't see any other comments about it, but this new IE7 update "KB950759", places the file "iexplore.exe" on the i386 folder, so it's not being patched by V'ISO. I use "OnePiece_IE7AddOn_2.1.1_ENU" to include IE7 on my XP disc. I have to manually modify the resources after V'ISO is applied. It didn't work, I dont know what other file to modify to get iexplore.exe the way I had before the update. I just wanted to let you know that. Update: "ieframe.dll" is not being patched as well. Update 2: Problem was solved by updating OnePiece_IE7AddOn_2.1.1_ENU with the files that KB950759 changes.
  17. If you extract V'ISO to an empty folder using WinRAR, you will see that there's a folder called "Extra", inside you will find 3 jpeg files, newmark1, newmark8 and wpaback, you can edit those images or put new ones using the same filenames as the original files. About changing the text I could not say.
  18. To Mr. amnesia: I see that "wuaucpl.cpl.mui.res" is not part of V'ISO itself, at least not in the 8.2.1 version (at least not in mine, hehe), now, it is completely necessary to include that file patched (located on the I386 folder) for "wuaucpl.cpl" to work without problems?, or am I being just ignorant? To Miss mona: Based on what I understood, and what I can actually remember: My Computer icon on "shell32.dll", Icon -> 16. Zip icon on "zipfldr.dll", Icon -> 101 and 123. CMD icon on "shell32.dll", Icon -> 153 You can change the RAR icon normally when you have WinRAR already installed, but I got it changed before adding a tweak to register that specific extension on my XP Disc. "C:\\WINDOWS\\Path\\RAR File.ico,0" being the actual path of the icon used. The texts you want to change from "Vista" to XP Pro are located on the "Extras" folder (part of OOBE), but I ignore how to change that since I haven't seen a Welcome Screen in ages. I hope it helps in some way.
  19. The best recommendation so far. This thread could save a lot of posts if people would take the time to learn how to do some stuff like this.
  20. Thank you for the post, I'm goin to add it to my mod (without the pirate flag tho)
  21. Here's mine, minimalistic, with lots of free RAM, hehe. Screenshot
  22. Indeed, the Wave plus the Revolution are the best combination out there now, and even more if you got the wireless version of the keyboard...
  23. Musicmatch was the best for that, but since damn Yahoo! got it long ago, the service stopped working. I searched a similar replacement, and MediaMonkey is now my way to go, it search Amazon Music for the info, being Artist, name of the song, Album Art, etc... With it I've been able to organize close to 3500 mp3s that I had on my temp folder easily. I hope it helps. MediaMonkey's Homepage
