  1. Oh my, Metallica will never learn.. In May of 2000, when Lars Ulrich personally delivered a 60,000-page printout of the Napster users who were sharing Metallica songs, he probably never suspected that the online backlash against his band would still be running at full steam eight years later. Sometimes, hindsight is everything. The band's unveiling of a fan-outreach program called Mission: Metallica, including DRM-free downloads and access to unreleased material, reflects a new understanding on their part about how the internet works: Give people what they want or they'll get it from somewhere else. But when we first posted about Metallica's plans for some sort of Radiohead-style release, the response was overwhelmingly negative. Of the 75 comments at this writing, not all are negative (even though the worst of the negatives are unprintable. Except they've already been printed. Look them up). "Wow, you're looking into using the Internet," wrote Lewis Salem. "Good for you, Lars. We have been looking into using it for 14 years. When you got up and demonized Shawn Fanning, you made a complete ass of yourself. How pompous." A user called Kanye West took the matter into the realm of parody: "Metallica hates black people." When the band announced that its plan did not include giving the album away for free, as Radiohead and Nine Inch Nails have done, fans became even more hostile. "Too little, too late. I don't even listen to metal, but I'm going to download this album illegally out of spite. Metallica sucks," wrote Ched. Danijel followed that up with "Stay off of the internet, Napster-killing pieces of shit hypocrites." P.W. explained his decision to stop following the band as part of his embrace of MP3s, despite the fact that Metallica is selling its next album in the format: "Up yours, Metallica. (I) don't buy your crap anymore and don't listen to your stuff after the late '90s. You wanted me to pick between MP3s and Metallica? I did. You lost." Contrast this with the love fans have shown for Radiohead and Nine Inch Nails, the two bands Lars Ulrich said Metallica had been keeping an eye on while devising its own strategy. About Radiohead's In Rainbows, commenter Bennet wrote, "I'm glad I could shell out 40 pounds for the discbox, the album is great and the bonus disc should be great," while Falha explained that any version of an afterlife would be acceptable, so long as they play Radiohead: "I don't know if there's a heaven or a hell. I just hope that wherever I go, I can listen to Radiohead. Thank you so much!" Nine Inch Nails received similar praise and gratitude from Listening Post readers for Ghosts I-IV. "Finally a music release system that I can get into. Pay the artist not the corporation," wrote Beriale. "Thank you NIN." Julie said she downloaded the album via torrent for free but decided to pay for it anyway: "First, I went to their site and downloaded the amazing GhostI. Then, after listening to it all night long, I went back and paid 5 bucks for the complete download, I loved it so much. How's that for marketing? Thank you NIN for nailing this down! Will music start our next revolution?"

    Welcome Niko, Bonjour!
  3. This amusing tale appeared in the Irish post January 2001........is it true? Surely not, but totally amusing! Notes from an inexperienced chilli taster named Frank, who was visiting Texas from the East Coast: Recently I was honoured to be selected as a judge at a chilli cook-off. The original person called in sick at the last moment, and I happened to be standing there at the judges' table asking directions to the beer wagon when the call came. I was assured by the other two judges and (Native Texans) that the chilli wouldn't be all that spicy, besides, they told me I could have free beer during the tasting, so I accepted. Here are the scorecards from the event: Chilli 1: Mike's Maniac Mobster Monster Chilli Judge one: A little too heavy on tomato. Amusing kick. Judge two: Nice, smooth tomato flavour. Very Mild Frank: Holy shit, what the hell is this stuff? You could remove dried paint from your driveway. Took me two beers to put the flames out. I hope that's the worst one. These Texans are crazy. Chilli 2: Arthur's Afterburner chilli Judge one: Smoky, with a hint of pork. Slight jalape
  4. Please check if you have the necessary rights to this key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run Right click --> Permissions. I presume you're logged in as an administrator. I suspect also that some third party anti spy application could be blocking your startup folder, so please check that also..
  5. Could you provide more information please, like, the type of error you get, thx
  6. NIM replied to lewis's topic in Windows Vista
Hi Lewis, you can upgrade your Vista Home Edition to Vista Ultimate edition and you won't loose your Vista Home activation if that was the question. But, you will not be able to revert back to Vista Home Premium, you will have to reinstall it from scratch. IMO, if you have Vista Home Premium, think twice before upgrading to Ultimate version: Vista Home Edition probably is everything you need and it doesn't have the following features from Vista Ultimate: Volume Shadow Copy BitLocker (Drive Encryption) Offline Folders IIS Web Server RMS Fax and Scan Ultimate extras, such as Dreamscene See here: Also here: http://www.microsoft.com/windows/products/...ons/choose.mspx If you really need the features I mentioned, then YES, you should upgrade
  7. I'll try it also, since I often get request for restore of deleted data without a backup
  8. Permissions fixed. When I created the new group "Turkish Addon Makers" it didn't have permission for Download Section, by default. If you experience any more issues, please let me know. Thx
  9. I can't understand how come that so many of you guys have malware, spyware or adware issues. I never had problems with any of those web parasites. I'm using only NOD32 along with Windows Defender. On XP, while Windows Defender still wasn't available, I haven't used anything for spyware protection. I personally don't trust those anti-spyware apps, not one of them, Those applications can help you in some cases, but they also like to "make up" adware on your PC.

I'm trying to understand what I said wrong in this sentence "Yes, only few, but most visitors come from USA". I meant to say that even though it looks like we have a small number of American visitors here, they still make the majority of WinCert.net visitors. Anyway, no offend taken.

Dear members and guests of WinCert.net, if you want to help WinCert.net with its expenses, you can do that now by using MoneyBookers.com service. The only catch is that you have to add funds to Money Bookers from your credit card or bank account. Once your funds are added to your money bookers account, you can simply transfer your funds to my account, using my mail address (which I can send you in PM if you'd interested in donating), similar to paypal. Since most of you already know, Croatia can't receive funds trough paypal so I was forced to found an alternate solution for receiving funds. Fees at moneybookers are very small, to be precise 1%. Thanks to Kels we tried this service and it's the best alternative for paypal that we could find. So here's what you need to do in order to donate in few easy steps: 1. Create an account on moneybookers.com 2. Transfer funds from your bank account or a credit card 3. Send me a PM in order to get my moneybookers e-mail address 4. Send your donation to my account I thank everyone that's willing to help! P.S. Special thanks goes to JurgenDoe and Sull which donated through other channels and have payed enormous fees. More on donation benefits HERE.

  15. When I've connected my new pc components I had the same problem. The cause was wrongly connected USB cable on the board. Also, it once happened when processor cooler wasn't implemented properly. I'd suggest you to remove every hardware component in the box and firmly inserting it back for a start.
  16. Looks pretty good to me

  20. Thx for sharing your experience with it.
  21. I didn't hear anything good about ASRock MBO's. Those MBO's are cheap ASUS wannabes IMO. I'd recommend Gigabyte or DFI since those MBO's shouldn't be expensive either.. As for the speakers, I wouldn't buy anything more than 2+1 system.
  22. You can try demo of this and see what can you digg out from that disk? http://www.atl-datarecovery.com/data-recov...ional/index.htm I've used it before and it's really good. You can also try Undelete Professional http://www.atl-datarecovery.com/data-recov...ional/index.htm Used it and it worked very well.
  23. Never heard of this, can you try with Standard Installation in VMWare and then test it, with WFP enabled by default..
  24. Thx again mate
