Hi, I am in the process of setting up a small (two PC's, both running Windows 7) network using a D-link DI-604 router (which acts only as hub, it's not set up in any way). In the Network and 'Sharing Center' in 'Control Panel' I clicked 'Set up a New (Connection or) Network'. All went well up until the moment I attempted to connect one PC with the other (In the 'Connect' dialog I entered the other PC's IP, no pwd). I can use both PC's to connect to and browse the net though, so the router/hub does not seem to be the problem. And I must have done something right, because the other computer shows up in the 'Network Map'. Any and all help is much appreciated! /Goran

Hey guys, I'm not sure what caused this, either a software or a hardware problem, I am not sure yet. Today I had to replace my CPU fan and I got all back together and when I started it came up with the Windows 7 error recovery thing and it said to do a system restore and I didn't want to and when I rebooted windows started up fine and when I logged into Windows this was the first screen that came up "Runtime Error 429 - ActiveX component can't create object" I thought maybe it was caused by a program that I had installed last night to rename a ton of images, I know this because when I used it, the program crashed and came up with a runtime error, but it was a different nu…

Hi everybody, I want to slipstream updates to windows 7 (all edidtons) I integrate an update (any update) via DISM (I use this command: "e:\7aiowork\dvd\sources\dism.exe /image:e:\7aiowork\mount /add-package /packagepath:e:\7aiowork\updates\x86\"). It works but when I want to test it via virual machine (I use VirtualBox) I can't install my files. It gives me an error at %63 (error code: 0x80070570) How can I fix this? or Is there a different way to slipstream updates to windows 7 (W7T doesn't work for me)? Thanks,

I've found a weird XP Mode bug. I can install it (and even install apps) just fine, but it only runs after the intial setup. Under the Windows Virtual PC folder under the Start Menu, it just says (empty), unless I have apps installed. Virtual PC is missing, as well as the XP Mode shortcuts that should be listed there. I cant even open the VM directly from the VHD files. Any body else seen this, or have a suggestion? SOLVED - I upgraded from Vista with Virtual PC 2007 installed. I uninstalled it with a third party uninstaller (VPC 2007 dosent work on 7). It wiped out my start menu shortcuts. XP Mode actually installed fine, I just needed to manually replace my star…

How To Change Windows 7 Logon Screen Here's how to do it manually Its is always nice to know how things work behind the scenes, what better way to do so then try them out yourself. To change the logon screen manually follow these steps: Run the registry editor (Win Key + R and then type regedit, press enter) Navigate to HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Authentication\LogonUI\Background , double click on key named OEMBackground and change its value to 1 (If you cannot find the path or the key go ahead and create it, remember OEMBackground is a Dword) You just enabled the OEM Background functionality. Now browse to the folder %windir%\system32\oobe\info\backg…

Windows 7 owners are having problems installing their new operating system, especially over Vista, according to comments on Microsoft's support site. Many find their installation goes into infinite reboot after 62% of the installation is complete. Switching off and rebooting doesn't help either because the system no longer recognises the older operating system. Microsoft says the problem occurs because the Iphlpsvc service stops responding during the upgrade. But others may also be to blame. One user who followed Microsoft's fix said it took 48 hours to get a working installation, with installation runs taking 10 hours a time. Even then he had to delete his wireless card …

If yes, then you need to add it to system startup: Copy below into notepad and then "save as" call it language.reg and save desktop double click on the saved file to merge into registry Reboot to take effect:- Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00 [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run] "ctfmon"="CTFMON.EXE" If not, you should contact Microsoft

This is a long shot BUT here goes. I have made a x86 and x64 a-i-o disk with a couple extras, however it is getting a hair too big. What are things I can MANUALLY remove from the disk? Also if possible is there anything I can remove from the wim to save space? Please remember this needs to be a full disk without any things removed (EXCEPT maybe the upgrade option)

Has anyone experienced after your PC is on for extended periods of time that you don't have any available memory left? Once my Windows 7 Ultimate x64 OS boots, memory usage is at about 32%, but after it runs through the day, memory usage jumps to more than 90%. no matter if I don't have any active programs. Once I hit that stage, I get the "insufficient resources when trying to open programs" error. It is probably related to some third party application having a memory leak. I've googled and found that it could be related with audiodg.exe which is a Creative driver process. Just for the record, I have 4GB of DDR2 RAM. I will try to track what's going on with process expl…

Has anyone else had problems with the gadgets? I typically run a weather gadget and a system monitor gadget and recently it started showing red "X"s like IE does when it can't find a picture file. The gadgets WORK but everywhere on it where it's looking for a picture file, it shows up as the dreaded red "X". It seems like somehow the location for the picture files has changed and the gadgets system can't find the files but I haven't changed my computer drive letters or anything. I have tried removing the gadgets system functionality using the add/remove windows components to see if it would reinstall correctly and that didn't do anything. Here is a screenshot of some desk…
