I was watching a movie when windows restart due to unexpected error, and it shows a bluescreen with many codes and words that i didn't get to read because its restarting. When windows restarts i've put it on safemode because i was afraid it will crash again.. so when windows reports the problem it didn't connect because of internet connection not working on safemode.. i think.. then i restarted again.. when i tried to do a disk cleanup, there's an option to delete a system error memory dump files which is 142mb. is that the error when windows crashed? i was afraid that windows will crash again that's why i've put it on safemode. i've never experienced anything like this b…

Is there a dual boot application for Windows (prefferably Vista) that could enable me to boot Windows and Linux? I use dual boot on one of my laptops (grub) and I don't like it very much because is more compatible with the linux environment (obviously, being his) and less compatible with my Windows Vista installation. My second question regards my primary laptop on which I have installed Windows Vista Enterprise with Encryption. I want to create a image of this installation. Unfortunately I wasn't able to find any application that creates images of encrypted images or drives. Does some know any backup applications that support this feature? Thank you

Apparently build 5744 was online for download for a short period of time. Will it make it to the CPP'ers or there's another build coming up?

  5. I saw this question on several forums and would like to post an answer here if someone will need it. So, let's presume that you have encrypted your hard disk with BitLocker encryption. BitLocker is a feature that comes with Windows Vista Enterprise and Ultimate Editions. For some reason, you need to plug-in your hard disk in other computer and read the data from it. If the other computer is running Windows Vista Ultimate or Windows Vista Enterprise and has a TPM chip, the encrypted hard disk can be unlocked from the BitLocker Control Panel item on the alternate computer. When you unlock the BitLocker-enabled hard disk on the alternate computer, the only authentication ope…

If you have problems with playing DivX movies in Vista Media Player 11 here is what you can try: Open media player classic options select playback and output. Try changing the DirectShow Video options to VMR9 click ok the accept changes, restart WMP and try again. It worked for me. Media Center, on other hand, doesn't work well with divx. Every time I select a folder containing divx movies it crashes after few seconds (while it trys to display thumbnails). I tried with new DivX version and Xvid codecs and no luck. I managed to run a movie with MCE but after a short period it crashes again. Vplayer, radlight, DivX player don't work in vista also. I get sound but no pictu…

I have tried to create a vLited x64 Vista Ultimate ISO. I downloaded a Windows Vista x64 SP1 Image from Technet and tried to integrate Fox's Vista Updates Pack along with some drivers. However, as soon as I try to install (either physical or virtual - VMware) I get the 0x80300001 and can't continue. I've searched all over but can't find a resolution. Anyone know how to fix this?

Microsoft finally launches the long-awaited Windows Vista today, promising better security and improved search and claiming it will be the fastest ever adopted operating system it has released. But some users have already questioned the business benefits of upgrading to Vista, citing the relative stability and security of Windows XP and a lack of compelling features in Vista. Based on using the second beta version of Vista here are the five things to get excited about Vista for - and the five things you'll hate it for. Five things to love about Windows Vista Search or create virtual files - Forget directories, forget directory trees. Microsoft has integrated search throug…

All the changes in Vista SP1 are behind the scenes. It was meant for improving the performance and no change in the interface but there are indeed some changes in Windows Vista SP1 that you can actually see: In the RTM version of Disk Defragmenter, the only control you have is over the schedule. In the SP1 version of Disk Defragmenter, you can choose which hard disk you want to defragment during a manual operation. In the RTM version, you can

  20. On January 9, 2008, Microsoft made available Windows Vista SP1 Release Candidate (RC) Refresh - Build 17128. This is the latest development milestone release of Vista SP1, following the first publicly available build of the service pack, served in December 2007. In the past month, the Redmond company opened up the testing process of Vista SP1 to all users of the operating system, by offering the first Release Candidate of the service pack. However, with the January 9 release, Vista SP1 went back to private testing. Windows Vista SP1 is not only available for download on Connect, but also as update via Windows Update. The current configurations of Windows Vista, however, …

  23. Although Microsoft Corp. has yet to fix an update that sent some Windows Vista machines into endless reboots, today it spelled out several work-arounds users can apply to regain control of those PCs. Last week's update -- actually a pair of prerequisite files that modify Vista's install components to prep the operating system for Service Pack 1 (SP1) -- caused some systems to repeatedly reboot, while others simply balked at booting. On Tuesday, Microsoft reacted to a flood of reports on its support forums by pulling the files from Windows Update until it could determine what went awry. Although some users managed to stop the rebooting on their own or with help from other…
