How to use Windows 7 DISM by Muiz. Q : What is DISM? A : Deployment Image Servicing and Management (DISM) Q : Why this guide? A : Cause there is NO information about this tool out yet. DISM is the replacement for the older deployment tools from Microsoft, like PKMGR and PEIMG WAIK doesnt support this yet, so when you want to use WAIK, use it from a Vista or XP, not from a Windows 7 When you work from Windows 7, you dont need to install DISM, cause its already in it. You can basicly do anything to your image with DISM, even aplly unattended settings to it , so you can use it unattended without XML. How to get DISM? 8. How to customize your Autounattend.xml AIO (x86/amd64) file ? When you have created your own Windows 7 AIO with all or some wanted images on one install.wim image you can customize your Autounattend.xml file to suit your needs. The first stage is to use Windows System Image Manager (WSIM) and create an Autounattend.xml file for example Windows 7 x86 Edition. WSIM is included with AIK 3.0 for Windows 7. http://www.microsoft...ls.aspx?id=5753 When all your customization are made, save the file. After, open your Autounattend.xml file with notepad and duplicate the same lines for CPU amd64, changing only x86 to amd64 on each line. Remove the last line indicating the loc…

To change the logon screen manually follow these steps: Run the registry editor (Win Key + R and then type regedit, press enter) Navigate to HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Authentication\LogonUI\Background , double click on key named OEMBackground and change its value to 1 (If you cannot find the path or the key go ahead and create it, remember OEMBackground is a Dword) You just enabled the OEM Background functionality. 17. After having some problems with an unattended .xml file, I found out something interesting that I'm sure is really good-to-know. So, some speedy USB sticks have SSD controllers inside. Some of these flash drives (USB 2.0 and especially 3.0) are seen by windows and marketed as external SSDs, some not (ex: USB 3.0 drives that have SSD controllers). And for some reason (I don't know and I don't care why, another Microsoft snafu if you ask me) the Autounattend.xml file isn't working if you boot from one of these drives... maybe Autounattend file isn't the only thing that won't work. Tryed so far two of these drives (one Ridata USB 2.0 / eSATA SSD, one Corsair USB 3.0), and f…

  18. Hi, does anybody know of a way (in Windows 7) to lock/pin the desktop icons in place once you have arranged them? My desktop isn't exactly cluttered, I think, there are at any given moment some 45-50. For the sake of easy navigation I try to keep the number to a minimum. When I have moved the icons around so that they are grouped into categories (roughly) and have their fixed places, it's easy to find what I'm looking for, and one gets used to it, like the layout of ones apartment for example. The desktop 'feels like home' to put it simply, plus it looks good. But every once in a while upon boot they are moved to the left side of the screen, not sorted alphabeticall…

  25. First, we'll discuss the 4GB RAM limit on x86 systems. The 4GB limit is hardware-based (well, almost - I'll explain the workaround later that allows up to 128GB) - the x86 architecture can really only address memory addresses at 2^32, or 4,294,967,296 (4,294,967,296/1024x1024=4096, or 4GB). So, no executable code can be at any address higher than the 4GB "boundary". However, there were 2 workarounds (hacks) that Intel put in place awhile ago to try and extend the life of the 32bit platform until it could get it's 64bit Itanium platform mainstream, and these were PAE and PSE (read here for more on why Microsoft chose to implement PAE rather than PSE). The hack you speak of…
