Microsoft Windows 7 Operating System discussions.

  1. I am attempting to modify %ProgramFiles% and %ProgramFiles(x86)% definitions as well as a few minor directories during setup. What I am not sure of is where or when to apply this so windows copies the least amount of files to the default locations. If I have to, I will write a script that finds and replaces any registry entries already modified and use the results of the script to move those files to their new locations. Any guidance is greatly appreciated! Comments also!! I plan on using registry entries like the following. [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Control\Session Manager\Environment] "CSIDL_PROGRAM_FILES"="F:\\Program Files\\" "CSIDL_PROGRAM_FILESX…

  3. I have with "update catalog" of win toolkit all microsoft updates integrated into my windows 7 image. However, when I look at windows update after installation I see that I still have about 100 updates to download and install. When I look at the list in windows update, I see the updates that I have added with "update catalog". What is going wrong? Must the update must be installed in a certain order? Maybe it's a stupid question but I am new in this matter.

  4. Hello all, Small question here, if you don't mind. I am currently trying to install Windows 7 on a new SSD harddrive. When starting the installation from the DVD, booting on the DVD, I have many errors like I/O errors and files not found errors. But if I start the installation from my already installed Windows 7 system, then no problem. It seems that when starting the installation from Win7, the installer check for updates online, so it downloads the correct drivers or whatever patches are needing to complete the installation correctly. Is there any way to get those updates on a DVD so that I can do a fresh install booting from the DVD ? I tried to download the l…

M$ recommends to uninstall an update to win7, KB2823324, because it conflicts with some programs and can cause the computer to stop startup or going into a loop of restart. or not to install it if not yet uninstalled. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2839011/en-ushttp://blogs.technet.com/b/msrc/archive/2013/04/11/kb2839011-released-to-address-security-bulletin-update-issue.aspxYou can remove the update with DISM: Get package names: dism /image:C:\ /get-packages Search the results for security update 2823324. Copy the package name, and paste it as shown: dism /image:C:\ /remove-package /PackageName:Package_for_KB2823324~31bf3856ad364e35~x86~~6.1.1.1

  15. I’m having problems with the updates for my Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit SP1 Image I can make an iso and burn it to DVD , but my updates say pending, and they never get installed to my .wim file or to my ISO. I have tested my image in virtual box and it does boot and install, but even after SP1 for Windows 7 it still needs 100 updates. I’am I doing something wrong? When I test the OS they never get installed. Currently I’m using CAB Files, and there is 384 of them. After the .wim file is created alot of the files say pending.

  18. I have used various versions of Kel's UberPack for several years. One of its features I have enjoyed most is "Run with Arguments" in the context menu. There are several registry entries for RunARG. One example is: Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\batfile\shell\Run With Arguments][HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\batfile\shell\Run With Arguments\command]@="\"C:\\Windows\\system32\\RunArg.exe\" %1" What I'd like to do is create a shell extension to "Run with Arguments (as Admin or Elevated)" I found the following command-line. runas /user:REQUIREDUSERNAME /savecred C:\Windows\System32\RunARG.exeI guess /savecred is supposed to make it ask for admin password on t…

  21. It would be sometimes interesting to use inf files with programs to uninstall this ones, if we want make a silent installation or uninstallation after Windows is loaded or installing with some others programs like WPI. The deal is to use the files included inside wa files to create an SFX file with silent switches. How to: 1 - Download the program: "Reapers.Notepad2.v4.2.25.735.x86.Windows7.or.8.AddOn.WA" (Add-on example) 2 - Unpack the folder using 7-Zip 3 - Remove the file Task.txt 4 - Inside "Notepad2" folder, move the Notepad2.reg and Notepad2.inf and all files included inside "Notepad2" 5 - Create an archive 7z for the folder "Notepad2" 6 - Create and UTF-8 txt file…

  22. Folks, it always happens like this: just when clean install utilities (nlite, WinToolkit, KUC) really mature and crush most of the bugs--that's when a new version of the Windows operating system appears. :welcome6ld: And right on cue we go back to our favorite fantasy: making the ultimate clean install disk to spare us the painfully long Windows re-installs. But this time, as Windows 8 looms, I'm urging you to stop this madness  : Thou shall not attempt to supersize the Windows install media ...and cram every driver, addon, tweak and update onto the install media Thou shall not attempt to make Windows 7 ...and try to slim down the install DVD to fit o…

  23. This is the first time I've played with the $OEM$ folder and I'm getting lost!! I'm trying to run a setupcomplete.cmd to add five updates that never seem to take (for me) and some reg files. I've realised that HKCU needs to go after first logon so I'm trying to get setupcomplete.cmd to add a runonceex key that will launch firstlogon.cmd. But nothing seems to be working! 24. Hi guys, I've a question about the hotfix and other components WinSXS directory in Windows 7, from what I've read by clearing the folder with vLite or WinReducer or other softwares, Windows Update will not work. But is it possible to fake Windows Update in thinking that WinSXS is fine even if I clear up all the files inside the various directories(directories are fine cause they don't occupy space, but .dll and .exe do). Can someone clear this thing ? Suppose you want to install future updates and hotfixes but you don't want to unistall any of the previous, are those files inside WinSXS required. How does Windows Update check if those files are present, will check update…
